Using an ice-breaker to start a conversation is sometimes more difficult than the conversation itself. Whether it is a networking event or meeting someone in a restaurant where there is no common ground, there is one thing you can do that works every time and that is to use open-ended questions.

For example, if you use the weather, instead of saying, “Wow, it’s really cold today.” You could say, “How are you enjoying this cold weather?” If you are at a networking event, instead of saying “Are you a member at the chamber?” You could say “How long have you been a member at the chamber?”

Using an open-ended ice-breaker is key and will help you get the conversation started. Here are few tips to help you!
