If everyone is sitting at the table for dinner or a meeting and a new guest walks into the room, should everyone stand upon noticing the guest entering? Does it matter whether the guest is male or female?

When someone arrives at the table, it is the responsibility of the host to stand and greet the guest. Be sure to say their name, have a good firm handshake and smile. Once you have said hello as the guest, you can introduce each person at the table. When being introduced, if there is a handshake involved, (sometimes the space does not allow this) you should stand and shake their hands. For larger groups, the host will more than likely say, “Mike, this is Lynda, Mark and Tom.”

It does not matter if it is male or female. In today’s business, it is no longer male-to-female, it is professional-to-professional.
