With the XYZ generation, which I call the e-generation, yes, I have seen a big drop in business etiquette and protocol in the workplace. Largely because this generation has not had to communicate with humans as much, as they grew up with electronics. And the companies in the early 90s did not require it as these groups of folks were the ones they needed to fill those demands and they were the only ones available to fill the job. Now it has all changed.

There is a greater pool of talent for technology and many other type industries. And when the economy gets tight the demand for etiquette and protocol increases. This is a demand that is becoming, again, the norm of how to do business.

If you do not know how to respect others and communicate effectively in today’s global environment, both verbally and digitally, you will fall behind.
