Yes I have seen a GREAT increase in the need of business etiquette and protocol of knowledge in the workplace. There are several reasons for this. One, the X, Y and Z generation have been communicating with technology and not so much with people. Now that they are entering the workplace, there is a great need for them to communicate with people, fact-to-face. This generation typically communicates with humans how they would with the machine.

The other factor is that we have 5 different generations in the workplace for the first time in history. Every generation tends to communicate differently. The older side of the baby boomers might not text but do email, where an X, Y, Z gen only texts.

Knowing what tool your team or colleagues prefer to communicate with can help everyone communicate more effectively. If you don’t know, ask. Texting someone to cancel a meeting and they never text, is not a good thing.
